NAVASSA PARADE HISTORY

In 1981 a few Navassa Natives saw the need to plan an event that would highlight the community's rich history, in addition to providing an opportunity for those natives who now live elsewhere to come and reunite with their heritage. As time past, various activities were planned that would highlight the community's natural resource.....it's residents. From the fruits of this labor came a host of ideas and events that would spawn into the 1st Annual Navassa Parade which was held July 10, 1982.
The Parade committee sponsored several events that included a Banquet, Pageant and Parade. Due to the tremendous success of these events, organizers decided to make the Parade and annual event scheduled on the second Saturday in July.
In 1985, the Parade popularity gave way to the addition of an "Oldies but Goodies" dance and Boat Cruise.
The parade has grown to be an event that is attended by over three thousand people and has over fifty entries in the parade itself. The Navassa citizens are proud of the vision that a few natives had which show cased our community. Today we continue to share their vision with the rest of the world by keeping their vision alive for all generations to come.
